Visit of Mr Yves BECK to Château Fougas

We had the pleasure to receive Mr Yves BECK at Château Fougas for a tasting, and more...

Here is an extract from his article about his tasting of Château Fougas Maldoror, of the 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019 vintages :

Château Fougas Maldoror 2015

70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon

" Expressive, appealing, controlled and very pure bouquet! Subtle nuances of morello cherries. In the mouth the wine is soft, elegant and well balanced by melted tannins. A sapid, full-bodied wine with a fresh finish. Now - 2030"

Rating 92/100

Château Fougas Maldoror 2016

75% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon

" A lot of freshness and subtlety in this bouquet. It reveals itself slowly, with precision. It unveils nuances of cherry and blackberry followed by spicy and minty notes. On the palate the wine has brightness, freshness and density. It is young, with powerful tannins, revealing itself gradually, and requiring time. It deserves it, so wait or decant! 2022-2036"

Rating 92/100

Château Fougas Maldoror 2018

75% Merlot, 25 % Cabernet Sauvignon

" Each year the bouquet of Fougas Maldoror surprises me with its ability to reveal freshness. It is also relevant in the way it reveals its authentic fruity notes. Moreover, the bouquet of the 2018 reveals chalky shades. On the palate the wine is straight, precise, fresh and perfectly balanced. It is just like the nose : relevant, and stands out from many 2018s by its tension and its balance. A fresh, delicate wine that can spend time in the cellar. 2024-2040

Rating 92/100

Château Fougas Maldoror 2019

75% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon

"The bouquet of the 2019 reveals an inviting floral character from the beginning, revealing hints of lime and chamomile. Blackberry and graphite notes also appear, followed by a fine touch of ageing through chocolate. Fresh and slightly creamy character in the mouth. The wine has ample but tight tannins that are in line with the freshness of the acid structure. The wine has energy and a beautiful aromatic intensity, from the attack to the finish. This is certainly one of the best Fougas I have ever tasted... along with the 2016. These two lead the marathon head to head... or rather side by side... of Bourg! 2025-2044"

Rating 93/100
