BIODYNAMIC VITICULTURE, ALREADY 11 YEARS!

BIODYNAMIC VITICULTURE, ALREADY 11 YEARS!

We have been working in biodynamic viticulture for more than 11 years and each year brings new surprises and delights. The first year, vineyard plot appeared to be such an exceptional quality so much that we launched a new cuvée ‘Forces de Vie’ in homage to biodynamic viticulture. Now, over the years, all our vineyards produce a wine of very high quality. But each one, according to its terroir, in a different style, expresses its own geological specificity.

(We feel a bit like the Burgundians faced with their ‘climates’!) During the blending, in the Bordeaux tradition, the wine gains in complexity, refinement and luminosity.

FOUGAS: PLANTS: HEAD IN THE GROUND AND FEET IN THE SUN

The most wonderful thing is probably the understanding of the vine’s needs and its evolution, which we monitor day by day. We should not forget that the plants, contrary to humans, have their head in the ground and their legs in the air.

Their brain, located near the roots, works as an orchestra conductor: the ground and aerial parts communicate in solar harmony, from photosynthesis to mycorrhizae. The mycorrhizae, while absorbing minerals from the soil to feed the grapes, weave links from one vine stock to another, so much so that the maturity is totally homogeneous on the plots of wine.

RAINBOWS IN THE VINEYARD

In the rows of vines, the indicator plants have changed and diversified thanks to a permanent evolution that regularly piques our curiosity. But it is undoubtedly a new harmony and a kind of symbiosis with nature that we have rediscovered through the sprays at daybreak, producing some rainbows in front of the tractor. We also rediscovered the soft light at the end of the evening along with the picking of plants at dawn (nettles, yarrow, dandelion, etc.) combining, as we walk, the dew and the first birdsongs. Now more than ever, we are convinced that only the quality of the grapes can produce Great Wines and that biodynamic viticult ure is the key.
