The 2017 Vintage | Côtes de Bourg
In the vineyard, an amazing weather
The Bud burst :
After a very mild winter and early spring, which favored premature vine growth, an episode of frost on April 27th and 28th came down on Bordeaux as well as on all the other vineyards in France.
We were only slightly affected. (We had, in anticipation, made a biodynamic treatment based on valerian.)
Then, followed a heat wave of fifteen days where the vine began to grow at a spectacular speed, we ran after the vine that grew faster than we could…
Numerous rain events have allowed the vine to feed on water, but the previous dry heat has resulted in a healthy, disease-free vineyard.
The Flowering :
The flowering that took place over a short week was in advance of fifteen days compared to normal.
The Veraison :
This advance was confirmed at the veraison. During this period we did a green harvest on some of the overcrowded plots.
In early August, the leaves stopped growing and the grapes were loaded with tannin.
The Harvest :
The harvest took place from September 15th on the merlot, and during the following week on the cabernets.
The Wines :
The harvest was scarce but very qualitative. The wines are now in barrels with a good length on the palate and a lot of fruit.
